Reference is paid close attention in linguistics, it is a hot issue in modern linguistic study. Linguists have established a relatively independent reference theory in semantic, pragmatic, cognitive area in their research, but there are also limitations inevitably. Systemic functional linguists, Halliday and Hasan studied reference from a new point of view, which had a profound impact on the linguistic study. With the development of systemic functional linguistics, its academic vitality and theoretical importance are manifested gradually.Double reference is as the name suggests defined two references appear in a sentence successively and simultaneously, with a considerable number of Chinese expressions. However, the meaning and function carried by double reference has very little concern. Its category, structure characteristics and the realization of interpersonal function have not been paid widespread attention and systematic research. This thesis, based on the previous study, and combined relative theories such as appraisal theory will emphatically analyzes the double reference structure and its realization of communicative function in discourse.In this thesis, based on the Systemic Functional Grammar, the category, structure characteristics, and thinking mechanism of double reference structure will be analyzed through the use of qualitative methods of data analysis to demonstrate the existence of its basic forms and justifications. The paper focuses on the analysis of the double reference structure through the use of three subsystems and clarifies how to achieve interpersonal function in the discourse. The study aims to raise the concern and attention to the double reference structure. For the practice of Systemic Functional Linguistics Theory and foreign language teaching research and learning, develop a new research horizon.
