Urban Color has gradually become one of the hottest topic in the field of urban planning in China because it directly reflects urban landscape. However the study of relevant theories and practical operations are still in a beginner's stage. Since year 2000, most of the mega cities in China has developed their own theme of colour. It is a milestone for the field of Urban Color in urban planning. The city - Xi'an where the author resided started their interest for Urban Color since 2003. Ever since year 2003 more operations and researches related to Ubran Colour were conduct. The color theme for Xi'an was revealed to the public last year. At the main time a series of developements were underway. This is how the research paper has got its topic on urban color and urban planning.This research paper was written under the guidance of Materialist Dialectics.This paper is divided into five sections. The theoretical aspects of the first three sections discussed about the basic color theory. It summarized the formation, production and charateristics of urban color. Moreover it summed the impacts and the factors constraining the formation of urban color which provide a solid foundation for future guide in urban color.This paper emphasis the rules that need to be followed in the planning of selecting a urban color theme. It sets a reference guide for future use. The main part of the article is about the analysis of researches on urban colour using basic theory as a reference. The first part, compared the urban color implementation in Xi'an and Wenzhou City. The conclusion in this part analyzied how the complementry and supplimentary colours were harmonized. The second part, summarizd the author's involvment in the planning of selecting the colour theme for Xi'an, Chanba district. Her work maintained the heritage but it also brought innovation to the Chanba district as well. This research paper recorded the details of the initial stage to the final stage of planning and it is also supported by analysis and statistics data collected.
