The Intricate Relations Between The Huagu Opera Training And National Vocal Music Performance

Despite their differences, Hunan Huagu Opera and national vocal music art do share some intricate relations in the areas such as basic vocal techniques and stage performances. Furthermore, learning and practicing Huagu Opera could help improve the singing and performance of the national vocal music.There are academic research conducted on either Huagu Opera or vocal music, but none of them have ever attempted to do some theoretically comparative studies of the two art forms. This thesis introduces the basic training contents such as singing, monologue, and acting required by the Huagu Opera and its aesthetics. It also introduces the training methods and aesthetics adopted in the national vocal music. And drawing on the personal experience and referring to some prove successful cases, the article also briefly expounds the impact the Huagu Opera training will have national vocal music performance.Featuring unique strong local flavors in Hunan province, Huagu Opera, well-spoken with elegant voice, is a distinctive local art form among the various local operas. Renowned singers such as Li Guyi, Song Zuying, He Qiguang, Zhang Ye, Xiang Nv, Huang Zhuo, Lei Jia and Wang Lidai have all had Huagu Opera trainings in the past.It is believed that this is not an isolated coincidence and I believe that people who have benefited from basic Huagu Opera trainings is not limited to myself. In fact, I have discussed the issue with Lei Jia and other national vocal singers and all of them acknowledged the positive results from the Huagu Opera trainings. The article attempts to conduct a concise analysis of the relations between Huagu Opera and national vocal music art, hoping it will serve as a catalyst to initiate discourses with people who are also interested in the topic.
