Anselm Kiefer wrote in his work You Are an Artist which created in 1969 that:"create ideal, mold the world, to be a painter, the first job is seizing his own destiny and actively put into action."Kiefer's creation is focused above on the recognition of his own identity and the future construction of the future world. In all the arts activities and attempt, Kiefer seek to touch the historical context and the nature of the German spirit, he finally completed the general sentiment of the universe, society and the life in the way of metaphor and reconstruction.This thesis will fully explain Kiefer's art thought in five parts. Firstly starts from the status of Kiefer as a new expressionist painter, and then tracing the roots, the thesis discusses a painter is the production of the times and the art works have their distinction of times. Secondly the thesis talks about the art stages of Kiefer, finds the subtle changes of concept during research. The third and the forth parts is the comprehensive study of Kiefer's art language, creative ideas and art style, analyzes the important meaning of non-traditional view of artistic practices in Kiefer's art concept, and gradually go into the artist's inner world through the style and feature of his works, finally achieves the purpose of the study——spirit seek. The last chapter, through the impact of Kiefer's comprehensive painting on contemporary art, we find the fundamental significance of easel painting and more possibilities for development.
