Vocabulary plays an important part in English learning. How teachers use vocabulary strategies properly directly affected students'vocabulary studying. As a matter of fact, limited vocabulary, vocabulary misuse and misunderstanding result in losing scores in comprehension, writing and listening of College Entrance Examination. In a way, vocabulary teaching plays the fatal role in English teaching for ordinary high school teachers. Thus, author made an analysis and investigation of the application of English vocabulary teaching strategies in Wenzhou ordinary high schools. Based on the survey,author made efforts to do further research into vocabulary strategies used by Wenzhou ordinary high school teachers, seeking to find out their weakness and strength,addressing existing problems in vocabulary teaching and giving heuristic suggestions.According to a survey on 145 teachers in 10 Wenzhou ordinary high schools, it is found that their strategies in English teaching are of ordinary level, application of strategies is unitary, especially application of cognitive and memorizing strategy, teaching through reading strategy, cultural and emotional strategy is also poor. Compared with them, situational strategy and teaching through web strategy are used better, but some problems exist in them as well. In different ordinary high school, some teachers still prefer teaching strategies out of date, what's worse, no special vocabulary class is set in teaching. This thesis consists of the following 5parts.Part one, introduction. This part introduces the background, value and different points of the research from others.Part two, firstly introduces basic conception of vocabulary, vocabulary teaching, and vocabulary teaching strateies; secondly introduces related theories. Thirdly reviews the condition of international and domestic research into vocabulary teaching. Finally, author pay special attention to domestic previous surveys on vocabulary teaching strategies.Part three, make an analysis and investigation of the application of English vocabulary teaching strategies used in Wenzhou ordinary high schools. First of all, author makes sure of the number of teachers and schools.Next, make up and design a survey form.Then, make analysis.At last,come up with existing problems.Part four, pedagogical suggestions. Author provides some helpful tips for teachers. Besides, do a small experiment to check the good result of using strategies author thought up with.Part five conclusion.
