Listening is usually regarded as the most important one of the four basic language skills. For various reasons, people didn't pay enough attention to listening skills training for students. The traditional way of teaching listening can't lead students to effective listening comprehension. With the reforms in English teaching being carried out, more and more scholars and language teachers begin to switch their focus from language itself to communicative competence and thus the importance of listening comprehension is being realized by English teachers. It is specified clearly in the "Teaching Requirements of New Curriculum Standard for Senior Middle Schools in Fujian Province" that one of the teaching aims is to enable students to control the learning process using learning strategies and make students independent learners. Nowadays, there is few research on how to train the students' listening competence in senior middle schools.The thesis is about an experiment with such background. It mainly explores the trainability of listening strategies and attempts to find out if the listening strategy training can really help improve the students' listening comprehension, hoping to find an effective approach to teaching listening comprehension. The results of the present study show that,(i) The training of listening strategies enhances the students' awareness of using the strategies.(ii) Listening strategy training help improve the students' listening comprehension.(â…˛) The learner-centered strategy training which is fully integrated into the language curriculum under the guidance of teachers is an effective teaching method for listening comprehension.
