As modern age demands talents with practical and innovative abilities, the new curriculum reform accordingly calls for self-determination, research, and cooperative learning. Robert Gagne's Events of Instruction Theory, resonating with the call of our age, evaluates highly the autonomy of students. Therefore, in order to arouse students' interest in Classical Chinese and improve teaching, it is much significant to introduce this theory to the class.Based upon what has already achieved in this field, my research is conducted through document analysis, questionnaire, test method, and experimentation. Systematically speaking, it is divided into the following two parts:lexical items learning which is accomplished by reading, practice, research, questioning, induction and contest; language acquisition which is carried out via research, creative activities, review, experiencing, extensive reading and case studies. As for empirical research, I did questionnaires about the current situation of Classical Chinese learning and conducted effective quasi-experimental research, experiment to achieve a certain effect, students in the learning attitude, self-awareness, autonomy and self-confidence and other aspects of the large difference, results have been greatly improved. The research demonstrates that applying Events of Instruction Theory in Classical Chinese teaching does arouse the student's interest and improve their grades, which is undoubtedly beneficial to their self-knowledge, self-confidence and self-determination.
