A Case Study Of Change Of White-pant Yao Village Sports Culture In Guangxi

As a significant cultural carrier of the white-pant Yao Ethnic Group, the village sports are closely linked to its traditional social life and history of the ethnic minority. In a unique way, the village sports have had great influence on the local ideology, values and aesthetic standard, embodying the profound cultural connotation and creativity of Chinese people. The village sports culture of white-pant Yao ethnic group bear in itself social and cultural values and functions, which plays a very important role in conveying the ethnic culture, improving cultural competitiveness, flourishing the local tourism and economic development, enhancing the communication and unity among ethnic groups and constructing a harmonious community in the multicultural areas.This thesis is based on anthropological miniature field investigations. Detailed field investigations have been carried out to look into the cultural and sports activities during the Spring Festival which is held from January 1st to 15th in Lihu Yao Town of Nandan County, also to observe the current situation, features, values and preservation of the traditional sports cultural resources of white-pant Yao ethnic group in Huaili Village.The village sports of White-pant Yao Ethnic minority have various forms, including 24 traditional events. The sport activities are held in three ways: in the whole village, within small groups or among individuals. The whole-village-based sports are characterized with the following traits: spontaneity in organization, profoundness in significance, unbalancedness of participants and vagueness in forms, etc. Being primitive, aboriginal, seasonal, spontaneous, rich and colorful, the traditional sports of this minority group contain great significance in politics, economy, education, health-keeping and recreation as well as marking ethnicity and so on.As to the current preservative situation of the village sports culture of white-pant Yao ethnic group, problems have occurred, for example, the consciousness alienation of the cultural preservation, the collapse of cultural ecology and resources resulted from too much utilitarian pursuit of economic development, the severe shortage of input in cultural preservation, and the lack of being systematic and manageable of preservation and development, etc. In this thesis, the author put forward the preservative mode which majors in the pattern of cultural preservation and economic development, the pattern of cultural brands, the pattern of competitions and the pattern of ecological museum; themanageable mode which majors in the governmental management and minors in the management by enterprises, communities and folk customs; meanwhile, based on theories of economics and management, the operational strategies are also provided.
