Higher education in the UK has a long history and a unique management system, especially, higher education reforms and attempts in recent thirty years was concerned by the other countries of the world. Whether successful or failure of the lessons of reform experience, higher education reforms in the UK provided reference and inspiration for the reforms of higher education in other countries. As a result of globalization, an intense competition exists among organizations and it directly influences administrative science as well as it leads to new trends. Higher education institutions in the UK as a non-profit organization, is also facing intense competition. Not only policy-making but also implementing policies, higher education institutions in the UK are faced with various risks. It is important for Higher Education Institutions administrators to analyze risk in a correct way and to manage it in successful manner. Therefore, risk management become as an important part of internal control. A comprehensive and systematic study on the theory and practice of risk management in HEIs in the UK has contributed to a more systematic understanding the implementation condition and the latest research results of risk management in colleges and universities in the UK and provided useful experience and enlightenment for risk management in Chinese universities and building harmonious universities in China.In recent thirty years, Higher education institutions in the UK faced more and more risks as a result of globalization and higher education reform. Firstly, this paper attempts to introduce the contexts and contents of risk management in HEIs in the UK, and then presents the main steps, guidance, ownership of risk management. Finally, an analysis of risk management at Swansea University and University of Cambridge is provided in order to make further understanding the current situation of Risk Management in HEIs in the UK and gain some enlightenment and reference.
