China Adjusts Trade Strategy In The Background Of Low-carbon Economy

With the problem of global climate becoming increasingly serious, more and more countries begin to pay attentions to the relationship between environment and economy. Climatic issues became a focus in Copenhagen Summit held in 2009. The development of low-carbon economy has become a trend around the world and an inevitable choice for every country. "Low-Carbon Economy" was raised for the first time by Britain in the UK Energy White Paper (Our Energy Future—Creating a Low Carbon Energy) in 2003, and then it developed countries accumulated lots of experiences in this field. As the biggest developing country in the world, China has unavoidable responsibilities in dealing with the climatic issues. Our country has taken a positive attitude to the development of low carbon economy, and we have a very broad space and potential to develop it. However, there are a lot of challenges in the process of developing low-carbon economy.In the background of low-carbon economy, more and more scholars begin to research the relationship between the climatic issues and International trade. Climatic issues have become an important factor of international trade, and keeping the climatic security has become one of the targets of international trade. The goal of climate security and the objective of international trade development are consistent in the long run.Low carbon economy will change not only trade patterns but trade elements, the form new trade barriers and restructure a new round of industrial chain. The expansion of international trade scale will be inhibited, and the proportion of low-carbon trade goods will increase. It will change trade structure:The proportion of low pollution, low energy consumption products will increase in the trade. Our trade will face many new challenges with the development of low carbon economy. Our country's export competitiveness will drop, the barriers will be more diverse, and trade friction will grow. So we should adjust trade strategies to keep our competitiveness and vigor. China's trade strategy underwent two stages,that is import substitution and export orientation,which had play a huge role in economic development, increasing employment, promoting technological progress and achieve economies of scale. But our trade strategy is facing some challenges as it brings rising of dependence on the outside world and increasing frictions and other effects.Our country need to consolidate the appropriate protection of the free trade strategy further and give policy support and limited protection to some weaker industries. We should treat sustainable development of trade as our important factor for consideration. And we also should optimize the export structure, make service trade and goods trade developing coordinately, emphasize enterprises'role in the development of low carbon technology. We should also guide foreign trade enterprises to complete self-transformation.
