Republic Of China Hangzhou Modern Tourism Study

Hangchow is a traditional famous city for its tourism. Since the ancient times, its tourist activity had been active, which has been showing its typical economic characteristics after our China came to the Period of the Republic of China (1912-1949). From then, the tourism had won great attention as a kind of brand-new management field. Based on the relevant documents of the Period of the Republic of China, this article tries to do the research about the bloom and development of the modern tourism in Hangchow during this historical period.Through analyzing the situation of improving the old and establishing new scenery spots in Hangchow during the Period of the Republic of China, by doing research on the managing situation of the three major travel industries, such as the travel service system with China Travel Service as its representative, the transportation system with trains and buses as its main vehicles as well as the tourist accommodation system with hotels and restaurants as its representative, this paper tries to explore the truth of the modern tourism development in Hangchow, and summarize the managing experience and characteristics of the related enterprises. With the information of the basic industries'developing situation at hand, the author will step further into analyzing the reasons of the tourism development and its effects on the development of Hangchow city and the society.The research on the three major travel industries in Hangchow during the period of the Republic of China manifest that the modern tourism in Hangchow during that period emerged as the times required under the influence of Shanghai tourism, and the three major industries had come to certain business scale with the preliminary characteristics of modern tourism. Moreover, the research provided us a totally new perspective to probe into the developing track of our modernization. Though the tourism in Hangchow during that period hadn't developed into an independent industry, it had brought great economic benefits to Hangchow and a certain influence to the city development and its social culture at that time, as well as invaluable historical experience to its today's tourism development.
