In the past twenty years, our economy grew in an extensive way that of high input,high consumption and high emission. The high growth of many industries also causes the high consumption of resource and serious pollution of environment. With heavy ecological burdens, the growth of industry was unsustainable. As a strategic industry, the aluminum resource industry on one hand is of great significance to the growth of national economy growth, but on the other hand faces serious problems of resource shortage, great energy consumption and serious environment pollution.Material flow analysis can do research on the industry development in an ecological way. It analyses the sustainability of industry development through measuring the material input, storage and output of the industry system. It considers that the influence to ecology of human activities depends on the material input and output. If the input and the output grow more and more, then the possibility of the economy sustainability will become smaller and smaller. The material flow analysis mainly includes two methods, "TMRO" method analyses the material exchange of the system interface in a macro-way, and the "SFA" method analyses the material exchange in each stage of the aluminum life cycle. The combination of these two methods can fully analyses the sustainability of industry development and also the causations. The article uses the "TMRO" method to establish an account system of industry material flow, and calculates out all the account index of our aluminum resource industry and American one, and has a comparison between them. It uses the "SFA" method to draw a metabolism map of aluminum resource industry, and analyses the causations of ecological burdens via input-output method.It finally has a conclusion that our aluminum resource industry is of heavier ecological burdens than ever before, and the main contributor is energy consumption. Two main causations of this actuality are the structure of consumption source and trade. According to the development experiences of aluminum resource industry in developed countries, the article puts forward a development direction. It considers that in the aspect of consumption structure, we should increase the import of aluminum scraps in the short term, and have a policy lean to the consumption and recycle of packaging aluminum; In the aspect of trade structure, we should control the output of virgin aluminum, encourage the export of downstream products, and speed up the factory establishment in foreign countries to guarantee the supply of virgin aluminum.
