The economic theory of competitiveness which is originated from the western developed countries in the 1980s is widely used in various sectors of China. Tourism is one of China's emerging industries. In recent years provinces and autonomous regions have attached great importance on it, and thus increasing investment has been made and more fierce competition has come to the surface. Against this background, we make our topic to be competitiveness study on the tourism industry in the provinces.Under the leadership of its government, tourism industry in Yunnan province is first developed on its unique tourism resources. Since many provinces have proposed their slogans for developing tourism, the competition in this industry becomes more and more heated. The priority on the work of these provinces is how to obtain the core competitiveness of the tourism development. In this paper, our object of study is the tourism industry in Yunnan province. We've made an innovative attempt in using system dynamics (SD) simulation methods in order to analyze the competitiveness of the tourism industry in Yunnan province.First of all, this paper summed up the theory and the application of study on related industry competitiveness and made a detailed introduction about the application of system dynamics in the tourism industry. Then according to the basic idea of system dynamics and based on the analysis of influencing factors on the tourism industry made by the previous scholars, we started to establish three sub-systems, namely competitive performance of tourism, the basic competitiveness of tourism and potential competitiveness of tourism and then drew up the flow chart and identify the equation on the basis of the inter-system relationship.Secondly we made an analysis on its industry development combined with statistics of the tourism industry in recent years, conducted the system simulation by using relevant data of Yunnan province, after which analysis of simulation and adjustment of data, inferred that enhance marketing and the capacity of the actual tourism industry can promote final performance of competitiveness—tourism competitive achievements, and compared with enhance marketing, enhance the tourism industry will get a more satisfying effect.Based on the simulation analysis, combined with cause and effect diagram model, the article inferred that should be on the basis of doing a good job in the tourism statistics and scientific research to focus on improving the management of the Government, the level of actual capacity of the tourism industry, and strengthen Tourism promotion marketing, which in order to enhance the competitiveness of the tourism industry.Finally, this article pointed out the defects of model construction and research methods, and the direction of further study, with a anticipation to the more in-depth research on the competitiveness of the tourism industry.
