Evaluation Research, Ship Repair Enterprises Based On Value Chain Management Contractor Competitiveness

Under the economic globalization and work specialization, outsourcing, as a method to utilize external resources, has proven to be an important mean for an enterprise to enhance its core competitiveness, especially in certain industries such as ship repair. Outsourcing has even become a production standard and an inevitable choice for a lot of ship repair enterprises. Enterprises and contractors have established a long-term business partnership to further drive efficiencies in the ship repair industry. The contractor plays a significant role in the value chain of the enterprise as well and its strength influences the competitiveness and operating efficiency of the enterprise. Hence, it is important to evaluate and upgrade the contractor's competitiveness.Ship repair enterprise's value chain activities, influential factors to its competitiveness, also its internal and external competitive environment are analyzed by applying the value chain management theory and competitiveness theory. Based on the design principles from the evaluation index of contractor's competitiveness, an evaluation index system for the competitiveness of ship repair enterprise's contractor is built.In order to ascertain the influence of every index in this evaluation system, the thesis has referred to the assessment conducted by professionals on a contractor's competitiveness. And fifteen professional statistics are analyzed systematically by applying the analytical hierarchy process. After the analysis, a weighted distribution is applied to the contractor's appraisal on competitiveness. Moreover, two contractors are selected to conduct the appraisal by applying the fuzzy evaluation method. Results are then presented. At the same time,this paper has adapt the BP neural network evaluation method to set up a contractor competitive evaluation mathematical model,use simulated data through BP neural network model for the evaluation which demonstrate the scientific and feasibility of this evaluation method. According to the results of this research, the competitiveness of a ship repair enterprise's contractor is mainly dependent upon its production management strength and its employees' techniques, but not necessarily its brand, capacity and financial strength. The finding conforms to the present condition of current Chinese ship repair enterprises and the actual situation of their contractor(s). The thesis also emphasizes the need to integrate contractor(s) into the management system of an enterprise. The purpose of evaluating a contractor's competitiveness is to better understand the present management situation and to improve the performance of the contractor. And hence, an enterprise's core competitiveness and competitive advantages can be upgraded.
