Yunnan Dali City's Comprehensive Competitiveness Study

The research of competitiveness has been mainly on macro-scale ,just as the Nation Competitiveness,or the micro scale of the Enterprise Competitiveness, whilethe city have been ignored although it has great importance to the competitive of nation and enterprise. Because of the ignorance, the definition and research model of city competitiveness aren't gain standards. The research on city competitiveness in China is later than western countries, but the competitive phenomenon among cities exist indeed. Now china undergoing the economic transition process, the competitive among cities is fiercer; as acteding to WTO, Chinese cities wil have to join the competitive all over the world. So the research on city competitiveness is the requirement of th- is competitive period.Dali has a long history of development as a city in western Yunnan and an important city .In the face of rapid globalization of competition conditions, how to develope its overall competitiveness. In order to cope with the challenges of globalization, how to enhance their competitiveness ability.These studies for the Dali in the new world system of labor division to hold the status is of great significance.In comparision with Dalid. we primarily choose three cities of Kunming,Qujing,Chuxiong, based on following reasons: 1, Kunming is the capital of Yunnan province, as well as the urban center;2, Qujing is also a big city, second only to Kunming;3, Chuxiong has distinct similarity with Dalid on development, national characteristics and etc;4, above all three cities are in the center of Yunan province;This paper set the city comprehensive competitiveness as the key point. A circle model of City Comprehensive Competitivenessis built,which contains the City Basic Competitiveness, the City Nucleus Competitiveness and the City Sustainable Competitiveness.By doing Factor Analysis on the data of 2006,we get the competitive condition of Dali city.At present, urban sustainability and urban image are the advantage of Dali city while the science&technology capability,, the promotional effect of large Enterprise and the talent need to be advanced.Generally speaking, Dali city of Dali state has unique natural geographical advantage and long-term economic development basis, it is the key tie for western cities group and central cities group in Yunnan. This paper proposes to build Dali city as the center city of Western Yunnan and provides some concrte strategies for this target.
