The mushroom development of industrial society brings tremendous material civilization as well as serious dissimilation effect (humanity and nature, humanity and society, humanity and itself) which causes lots of social problems already reached a level pernicious to the development of existence and development of humanity such as lack of resources, environmental pollution, ecological degeneration, anomic, disregard of human rights, enlarged gap between the poor and rich, deficiency of human spiritual values and etc. Besides, the existence of humanity is facing predicament and crisis of deeper level. It seems that the appearance of theory on business social responsibility brings us a ray of hope in resolving human predicament. However, in the process of business running, the phenomenon of ethics silence indicates to us the contradiction between ethics and effects, which places such various obstacles to the theory advancement and practical popularization of business social responsibility that so many scholars have to make business social responsibility research confined in the matter of profits, and regard it as an effective means, thus separating the meaning and value of business social responsibility itself. This thesis is to expound the legitimacy and reasonability of values of business social responsibility from the double perspectives of Ethics and Economic efficiency. It implies the combination of value rationality and instrumental rationality, effects and justice and so business social responsibility realizes its values in practice.By clarifying the current research on business social responsibility, this thesis analyses the positive influences on the relationship between business social responsibility and operational efficiency, and demonstrates the economical reasonability of its existence. Apart from the above, this thesis redefines the meaning of business social responsibility from which the thesis demonstrates the reasonability of it by such moral evaluation theories as utilitarianism and Deontology. Finally, the last chapter expounds the value return of business social responsibility---the return of humanity itself, towards a better tomorrow.
