Along with the rapid development of the world's economy, what we witnessed was the increasingly'Service Based'economic development, the highly mature service economy existing in the western developed countries, and the disparity in development speed and structure of service industry between Shanghai and international metropolis such as New York and Tokyo, which make us come to realize the importance of service industry, especially producer services to the economic growth and industrial structure promotion, in the transition from the late industrialization to the developed economic era. It motivates us to find out and analyze the characteristics of producer services development in the late industrialization and the origination together with the mechanisms of the aforementioned phenomenon, in order to provide ideas and advice in upgrading the industrial structure and accelerating the internationalization in Shanghai.This thesis focuses on three aspects: one is theoretical investigation into producer services as a general industry; another is to study the role of producer services in the development mechanism of service-oriented economy from manufacturing economy, as well as trying to reveal the features of producer services in the late industrialization; the third is empirical research on current development of producer services in Shanghai. Chapter 1 is introduction and analysis of existing documents. The following aspects are introduced to generally describe the nature of producer services: industrial features, industrial classification, intrinsic motivation of industrial development, and the influence on economic growth. Chapter 2 analyzes the drive factors of the transition to service economy in the late industrialization from the angle of deepening labor division, along with the important role of it in industrial restructuring and the formation of service economy. Chapter 3 is empirical study on the development features of today's producer services. Chapter 4 combines both theoretical and empirical analysis, draws the conclusion of the development features and directions of producer services in Shanghai by studying the effect of producer services development on the upgrading of industrial structure in Shanghai.
