Self-reported Eating Habits And Tobacco And Alcohol Partial Addicted To The Relationship With The Chinese Constitution

Objective:With the development of economics and society, life style is being changed and its influence on life and health has become the hotspot of the social attention, such as diet habits, tobacco and liquor hobby. Constitution in Chinese medicine is based on congenital heredity and acquired life style. The purpose of this study was aimed to explore the relationship between habits (diet habits, tobacco and liquor hobby) and constitution in Chinese medicine in general population 8448 people from nine provinces and municipalities.Methods:The data is from the constitution in Chinese medicine and general situation cross-section survey (National Basic Research Program of China,973 Program) which was conducted in general population above fifteen years old of community, school and body check center in nine provinces and municipalities (Jiangsu, Anhui, Gansu, Qinghai, Fujian, Beijing, Jilin, Jiangxi and He'nan). The questionnaires mainly adopt the Constitution in Chinese Medicine Questionnaire (CCMQ) and the background questionnaire (including demography index, diet habit, sleep habit, exercise habit and so on).8448 samples was collected to explore the relationship between habits (diet habits, tobacco and liquor hobby) and constitution in Chinese medicine in general population, using logistic regression analysis. And further study is order to explore the relation between the key factors with Phlegm-wetness type or Wet-heat type. During the process of studying, Gentleness type is always as the reference.Result:â‘ By logistic regression analysis, the results showed that habits (diet habits, tobacco and liquor hobby) in general population from nine provinces and municipalities was associated with constitution in Chinese medicine, and the contact had its character. In more detail, compared with Gentleness type, Qi-deficiency type primarily concerned with dietary preferences, such as hot food (OR=1.26), cold food (OR=1.25), sweet food (OR=1.20) and so on. There was an obvious positive correlation between Yang-deficiency type and hot food (OR=2.85, p<0.0001), as well as between Yin-deficiency type and cold food (OR=1.55, p<0.0001). Phlegm-wetness type mainly caused by fatty food (OR=2.04), barbecue food (OR=1.98), and tobacco smoking (OR=1.66).Then barbecue food (OR=1.57), salty food (OR=1.45), and tobacco smoking (OR=1.35) was positively correlated with Wet-heat type. The analysis also revealed there was a definite relation between Blood-stasis type or Qi-depression type and barbecue food, with the values of OR 1.48 and 1.38 respectively. And Special diathesis type was primarily related to the dietary preferences sweet food (OR=1.26).â‘¡The research on the relationship between the key factors and constitution in Chinese medicine showed: the composition contains any two or three of the key factors (fatty food, barbecue food, and tobacco smoking) had stronger positive relationship with Phlegm-wetness type by comparing the case of any one key factor exists(OR 4.37 VS 2.11), then the same result appeared after adjusted for demographics in the model 2(OR 4.04 VS 2.08). In the multivariate regression analysis model 1, Wet-heat type was highly related to the composition which contains any two or three of the key factors (barbecue food, salty food and tobacco smoking) than that of in any one key factor (OR 2.65 VS 1.44). And regardless of these demographics factors, the result was similar (OR 2.69 VS 1.48).Conclusions:The habits of eating, smoking and drinking had a definite relation to constitution in Chinese medicine in general population from nine provinces and municipalities. Different type of constitution closely related to the particular lifestyle or diet habits. This study suggests that the healthy eating habits or lifestyle plays a positive role on keeping Gentleness type or better health status.
