| Objective:With the medical model change from the biomedical model to bio-psycho-social medical model, the disease-focused population medicine is change to the human-centered individual medicine. There is a growing concern on the special regulation in process of human life and individual differences among people. As part of the Life Science, the Constitution in Chinese Medicine theory not only pays attention to adjust the overall function of the human body, but also pays more attention to individual constitution and the difference between individuals. As an important form of expression of human life activity, the constitution phenomenon is complexes which consist of specific physical quality and mental quality. In this study, through explore the psychological characteristics of personality of the nine Constitutions in Chinese Medicine, thus to provide the epidemiological investigation for personality of different types of the Constitutions in Chinese Medicine, and to enrich and develop the Constitution in Chinese Medicine Since.Methods:From May 2009 to June 2009, adopt cluster sampling method,540 cases of young students between 18 to 25 years old of two universities in Beijing were investigated by cross-section survey. It was performed using the Constitution in Chinese Medicine Questionnaire (CCMQ), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised, Short Scale for Chinese (EPQ-RSC) and the background questionnaire. The psychological characteristics of personality of nine constitutions in Chinese medicine (Gentleness type, Qi-deficiency type, Yang-deficiency type, Yin-deficiency type, Phlegm-wetness type, Wet-heat type, Blood-stasis type, Qi-depression type and Special diathesis type) were assessed by univariate analysis and logistic regression analysis.Results:①The reproducibility of the correlation coefficient of constitution in Chinese medicine was 0.76 to 0.90 and test-retest reliability was good.②The constituent ratio of nine constitutions in Chinese medicine between the national norm and the students was different, and the difference had statistical significance (p<.0001).③In extraversion dimension of EPQ-RSC in the general population, Gentleness type had the highest score(x=56.52) and Qi-depression type had the lowest score(x= 45.88). There were significant differences between the score of Gentleness type and the score of other eight pathological constitutions (Qi-deficiency type, Yang-deficiency type, Yin-deficiency type, Phlegm-wetness type, Wet-heat type, Blood-stasis type, Qi-depression type and Special diathesis type). In neuroticism dimension of EPQ-RSC, Qi-depression type had the highest score (x=59.31) and Gentleness type had the lowest score (x=44.08). There were significant differences between the score of Gentleness type and the score of Qi-deficiency type, Yin-deficiency type, Wet-heat type, Blood-stasis type and Qi-depression type. In psychoticism dimension of EPQ-RSC, Special diathesis type had the highest score (x=50.77) and Qi-deficiency type had the lowest score (x=47.59). There were no significant differences between the score of Gentleness type and the score of other eight pathological constitutions.④Stratified by gender, professional, grade, family residence respectively, There were significant differences between the score of Gentleness type and the score of Qi-deficiency type, Yang-deficiency type, Yin-deficiency type, Wet-heat type, Blood-stasis type, Qi-depression type and Special diathesis type in extraversion dimension. And all the scores of Qi-deficiency type, Yin-deficiency type, Wet-heat type, Blood-stasis type and Qi-depression type were different with Gentleness type in neuroticism dimension, and the difference was significant. There were no significant differences between the score of Gentleness type and the score of other eight pathological constitutions in psychoticism dimension.⑤By logistic regression analysis, expect Yin-deficiency type, other seven pathological constitution were different with Gentleness type in extraversion dimension and the difference was significant. Wet-heat type, Qi-deficiency type, Yin-deficiency type, Blood-stasis type and Qi-depression type were different with Gentleness type in neuroticism dimension and the difference was significant.Conclusions:Nine different types of Constitutions in Chinese Medicine people have shown corresponding psychological characteristics of personality. The psychological characteristics of personality of Gentleness type is extraversion and emotional stability. The psychological characteristics of personality of Qi-deficiency type, Wet-heat type, Blood-stasis type and Qi-depression type are introversion and emotional instability. The psychological characteristics of personality of Yang-deficiency type and Phlegm-wetness type is introversion and emotional stability. The psychological characteristics of personality of Yin-deficiency type is extraversion and emotional instability. The psychological characteristic of personality of Special diathesis type is given different. This survey has not yet found neuroticism of eight pathological constitutions. This study illustrates that nine constitutions in Chinese medicine are related to psychological characteristics of personality. To take corresponding measures to adjust pathological constitutions, can prevent the occurrence of mental illness. |
