Since the syndrome of spleen-deficiency has a universal significance in the occurrence and development of diseases, a clinical research was made on moxibustion on umbilicus with Chinese herbs?of the strengthen spleen to reinforce Qi function. The author random allocated 62 patients with hypospLeno ?Qi syndrome into the groups of moxibustion on umbilicus with Chinese herbs (30 cases) , moxibustion only on unibiicus(15 cases)and that treated by Buzhongyiqi Bolus(17 cases) and treated them 30 days. The result shows that the mathed of moxibustion on umbilicus with Chinese herbs can obviously remiss the main symptoms of spleen weakness ,the short-term result shows an obvious improvement with a total effective rate of 96. 6754, it is markedly different from that of moxibustion only on umbilicus (73. 33%) and that treated by Buzhongyiqi?Bolus (64. 7154). Laboratory test shows that the level of the urinary D ?xylose excretory rate of the patients with hypospleno ?Qi syndrom was lower than those of normal controls (P < 0. 01). The response of salivarygland to exogenous stimulation was obviously lower, and the level of the serum soluble interleukin ? receptor was higher than the normal (P< 0. 01). It suggested that the functions of digestive system and immune system were of low and disorder status. After the treatment of moxibustion on umbilicus with herbs, the all indexes of the above were abviously improved. It suggested that the methed of umbilicus moxibustion with Chinese herbs can evidently improve the digestive and absorptive function and strengthen cell immunological function. So, it is sure that this method has the function of strengthening Spleen to reinforce Qi. The result was due to both the point effect resulted by the stimulation of moxibustion on ShenQue point and also the direct function caused by the absorption of herbs ,it actually is comprehensive regulating effect.This method combines both actions of drugs and point together to warm meridians and strengthen Spleen to reinforce Qi. It is a simple , easy and effective method for internal diseases.
