Expression of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor and its Receptor Correlate With Angiogenesis and Prognosis in Pulmonary AdenocarcinomaDepartment of Thoracic suryery, Qing Dao University Medical College Postgraduate Student Zhang Zhixue Tutor Lin Lesheng【Abstract】Objective To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and its receptor (KDR) and their relations with angiogenesis and prognosis in pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Methods The expression of VEGF and KDR was immunohisto-chemistrically studied individually and in combination with the microvessel density (MVD) determined by the facfor 8-recated antibody and that prognostic value in 90 patients with a pulmonary adeno-carcinoma.Result The stain positive rate of VEGF and KDR was 68.7%,46.7%,respectively.The positive expression of VEGF and KDR showed higher in patients with lymph node metastasis or tumor diameter more than 3.0 centimeter(P〈0.05).The intratumoral MVD in VEGF-positive or KDR-positive tumor was significantly higher than that in VEGF-negative or KDR-negative tumor(P〈0.01). The 5 Year survival rate showed significant difference either between VEGF-positive and VEGF-negative groups or between KDR-positive and KDR-negative groups(P〈0.01).the overall prognosis was poorer in VEGF or KDR-positive and KDR-positive than in either VEGF or KDR-positive and in VEGF-negative and KDR-negative patients(P〈0.01). Conclusion The resucts indicate that VEGF and KDR play an important role in the growth. metastasis and angiogenesis of pulmonary adenocarcinoma, and that they may be important predictors of prognosis.
