[Abstract] Objective Applying low energy He-Ne laser therapy, to observe its effect on NGF and NGFR in the brain of ischemia /reperfusion rats. Method Adopting Zea Longea's model of ischemia /reperfusion, 72 adult rats are divided randomly into 4 groups: normal control group, sham-operated group, ischemia /reperfusion group, laser therapy group. Ischemia /reperfusion group are divided into 4h, 1d, 3d, 7d, 14d group. Laser therapy group is irradiated with 632.5nm He-Ne laser intra-nasal cavity 10 min everyday for 7 days. Observing NGF, NGFR and neurological grade of rats. Results Cerebral ischemia can increase the expression of NGF and NGFR (P<0.001). The increase of the expression of NGF and NGFR began after 4h at reperfusion and peaked at 3d after reperfusion. There was no significantly difference in the expression of NGF and NGFR between laser therapy group and ischemia /reperfusion group (p>0.05), while there was significantly difference in neurological grading between the two groups (p<0.05). Conclusion The expression of NGF and NGFR has protective effects on the brains in ischemic acute stage. Laser therapy has good therapeutic effect, but it cannot affect the expression of NGF and NGFR.
