Objective: To examine the effect of Da Chai Hu decoction (DCHD) on atherogenesis and on c_myc gene expression of vessel wall in atherosclerotic rabbit . Methods: Thirty-two healthy male white rabbits were randomly separated into four groups. Group C (control group)-fed with regular rabbit diet. Group CAS-fed with 1% cholesterol diet. Group Z-fed with 1% cholesterol diet and zovastatin lOmg/day. Group D(DCHD)-fed with 1% cholesterol diet with DCHD 20mL/day. Prior to and at the end of 5th and 10th weeks respectively, fasting blood samples were collected for serum, TC, TG, HDL-C, ApoA ApoB. After sacrificing the animals differential parts obsevered, measuring the average maximum plaque(intimal) and medial thickness with light microscope. Observing cellular phenotypes on smooth muscle cell with electronic microscope, and c-myc gene expression in situ hybridization. Results: DCHD Group, the serum TC TG ApoB were decreased HDL/TC were increased,. Expression level of mRNA oncogenes in CAS group enhanced more than other groups. Conclusion: DCHD exerts strong antiatherosclerotic effect on experimental rabbit. DCHD, preventing expression of c-myc gene expression in atherosclerotic lesion and hypolipidemic effects may contribute to the mechanisms..
