Objective: To observe the activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes and the deficiency of mitochondrial DNA in hearts and brains of aged rats with spleen Yin deficiency syndrome. Methods: The animal model was established in composite factors. Animal experiments with enzyme kinetics and PCR(polymerase chain reaction) technique were conducted.Result: The activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes I, IV in hearts and brains of aged rats with spleen Yin deficiency syndrome are less than that of normal group. The deficiency of mitochondrial DNA in hearts and brains of aged rats with spleen Yin deficiency syndrome is more than that of normal group. The nourishing Yin group has an improvement in The activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes I, IV and the deficiency of mitochondrial DNA in hearts and brains of aged rats. Conclusion: The activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes in hearts and brains of aged rats with spleen Yin deficiency syndrome decrease and the deficiency of mitochondrial DNA in hearts and brains of rats with spleen Yin deficiency syndrome increase. The methods of nourishing Yin can promote the activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes and lower the deficiency of mitochondrial DNA in hearts and brains of aged rats.
