Objective: To investigate the effect of Bi Yuan Shu Oral liquid on acute suppurative sinusitis (ARS) of rat, and to explore its mechanism. To provide experiment to the basis for the clinical application .Method: According to the method of Y.Ge induced experimental ARS models. A week later, high, ,middle and low dosage of Bi Yuan Shu Oral liquid was irrigated to the stomachs. Penicillin V, xihuaniansu was used for the positive medicine. After a week's therapy, the count of white blood cells, erythrocyte immune adherence, bacteria culture, NOS, NF-kB were tested. transmission electron microscope were observed to show changes of the sinus mucosa.Results: Experimental ARS rat are apparently abnormal in following parameters: the count of white blood cells, RBC-C3b, RBC-IC, bacterium effect, NOS, NF-kB. Moreover, transmission electron microscope view of the sinus mucosa manifest typical pathological changes of ARS. Bi Yuan Shu Oral liquid improved above facts apparently.Conclusion: Bi Yuan Shu Oral liquid can modulate abnormal mucociliary system of ARS rat through different ways and links. Bi Yuan Shu Oral liquid manifests good entirety effect. Moreover, strengthening erythrocyte immune adherent function, restraining bacterium increase, restraining NF-kB and eliminating inflammation are one of principal mechanism of prophylactic therapeutic action of Bi Yuan Shu Oral liquid on ARS.
