Object:1. Investigating a kind of food which also can be used as medicine to adjust blood glucose and Diabetes Mellitus;2. Investigating an ideal animal model which can be used in Diabetes Mellitus(DM) research;3. Observing the effect of purslane on DM mice models.Method:1. Gathering and sorting all the records of purslane's effects in ancient books;2. Establishing DM mice models: In this study, DM was induced in Kunming Mice. By the low-dose streptozotocin (STZ) (intraperitoneal injection of STZ at a concentration of 80mg/kg body weight); during the experiment ,observing the changes of body weight: food intake water intake and the blood glucose; at the end of the experiment , by measuring the level of insuline and serum C-peptide, and observing the pathological process of pancreas;3. Giving purslane to the mice in the established DM mice model at three levels of doses:5g/kg,10g/kg,20g/kg per day for two consecutive two weeks.During the experiment ,observing the changes of body weight, food intake, water intake and blood glucose; and measuring the level of insuline and serum C-peptide; weighting the immune organs; and observing the pathological process of pancreas.Result:1. Finding out records of purslane's effects on curing DM and other effects which have not heen studied in many ancient books.2. The body weight of diabetic group was significantly lower than that of normal group from day 5; the water consumption of diabetic group was significantly higher than that of normal group from day 2; the food consumption of diabetic group was significantly higher than that of normal group from day 5; the blood glucose level of diabetic group was significantly higher than that of normal group from day7, and reached the standard of DM model(≥16.7mmol/L) and the blood glucose levels lasteduntil the end of experiment; the serum C-peptide and pancreatic islets from DM mice were much lower than normal mice; the diabetic...
