Radix Scutellariae is one of the most common medicinal materials .With the increasing requirement, wild Radix Scutellariae resource was serious destroyed and cultivated Radix Scutellariae became the main commodity. But the quality of them is irregular and the manufacture is minitype. In both traditional opinion and modern pharmacy opinion, the wild Radix Scutellariae produced in Chengde region is the authentic and superior herbal. So wo can consider the characteristic of wild Radix Scutellariae produced in Chengde region to be the standard of evaluating.In order to define the characteristic of wild Radix Scutellariae produced in Chengde region, we collected the wild Radix Scutellariae which produced in Chengde region and other regions, and collected the cultivated Radix Scutellariae which produced in Chengde region. Compare them in several aspects and find out the characteristic. Then compare the key process of cultivate to define the influence to plant's quality and quantity of each condition. Following is the detailed methods and results.(1)Determine the total content of the flavonids by UV spectrum and determine the content of baicalin, baicalein, wogonin by high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) in the Radix Scutellariae which we collected. Considering the data, we figure the wild Radix Scutellariae produced in Chengde region is provided with the characteristic that the content of baicalein is 1.32±0.20%, wogonin is 0.74±0.12%, the ratio of baicalein and baicalin is 0.11±0.03, the ratio of two aglycone and total flavonids is 0.12±0.03. This conclusion can be a standard of wild Radix Scutellariae.(2)Establish the flavonid HPLC fingerprint of Radix Scutellariae. In the fingerprint, 16 commom peaks of flavonoids in S. baicalensis were confirmed and four components were definituded. And we find that the peaks between 20min and 40min is the the characteristic area of wild Radix Scutellariae produced in Chengde region.(3)In order to guide the cultivate of Radix Scutellariae and provide high quality and stable medicinal materials, we compared some important factors which would influence the quanlity of Radix Scutellariae, such as the fertilization, the cultivate pattern, the use of growth hormone, the cut of branch with flower and the best collecting period. Considering both the output and quanlity of Radix Scutellariae, lay the foundation of the Standard Operation Procedure of Radix Scutellariae standard cultivation.
