Color Doppler Ultrasound Diagnosis Of Uterine Sarcoma Research

Objective: a) Determine the clinical and histological feature of uterine sarcoma. b) Investigate the correlation of gray-scale and color Doppler ultrasonographic characteristics to the clinical staging, histological typing and grading of uterine sarcoma. c) Evaluate the ultrasonographic features in discriminating the uterine sarcomas of different histological types.Material and methods: The study included patients admitted in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from Jan 1995 to Aug 2005 with postoperative diagnosis of 60 uterine sarcomas. Preoperative ultrasonography was performed, the gray-scale and color Doppler sonographic characteristics, such as the number, location, morphology, margin, echo pattern of the tumor, the existence of liquefied area, and the vascularity were analyzed and compared with histological results, which included tumor clinical staging, histological typing and grading.Results: 60 cases were diagnosed postoperatively as uterine sarcomas with the mean age of 48.7 years ±13.6(median 49years, 19~74years), vaginal bleeding was occurred in 56.7% patients. The study included 21 leimyosarcomas (LMS), 29 endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) and 10 malignant mullerian mixed tumors (MMMT). The case number for high, medium and low histological grading was 17, 15 and 24, for clinical staging 1, 2, 3 and 4 was 18, 17, 17 and 8 respectively.
