Objective: To observe the effect of traditional Chinese medicine of Xuekening accompanying with glucocorticoids for idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) belonging to yin deficiency endogenous heat and blood stasis. Methods: 30 patients with ITP conforming to the standard (according to the revised standard of the first Chinese association of haematology's academic conference of thrombus and hemosstasis, Dec. 1986) are grouped into treated group with is treated with Xuekening accompanying with glucocorticoids of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine and control group treated with glucocorticoids, 15 and 15 patients, respectively. 3 weeks is a period of treatment. Treatment lasts for 1-2 periods of treatment. Observe the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine of Xuekening accompanying with glucocorticoids for idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) belonging to yin deficiency endogenous heat and blood stasis and the effects of the indexes of blood routine test and clinical recurrence rate. Result: The response rate of treated group is 86.6%, which is higher than 53.5% of control group, and has the meaning of statistics (P<0.05). There is remarkable improvement in the treatment of subcutaneous purpura and feverish sensation in five areas and obvious difference compared with control group (P<0.05). The recurrence rate in one year and the general recurrence rate of treatment group are better than control group but there is not apparent statistic meaning (P>0.05). Conclusions: There is good clinical treatment effect of traditional Chinese medicine of Xuekening accompanying with glucocorticoids for idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) and apparent whole clinical symptoms of the patients. The treatment is good for the amelioration of the abnormal blood platelet count, decreasing of the use of glucocorticoids and decreasing of the recurrent rate of the diseases. It can also help to stabilize the diseases and decrease the byproduct of west medicine.
