Foam fractionation is known to have potential for separation of glycyrrhizic acid with a range of surface activities because of its simple equipment, normal temperature and low cost.To prove foam fractionation' s feasibility and advantage this paper have a Comparison study between foam fractionation and conventional processing crafts for glycyrrhizic acid inclusion compound.Before foam fractionation processing study surface activities of glycyrrhizic acid had been studied simply. The results showed that glycyrrhizic acid was a natural surfactant. Its CMC is 0. 6mg/ml. and pH had a large effect on surface tension.Different surface activities result in different system, And it will lead a different experiment result. In this dissertation, Liquorice solution, glycyrrhizic acid solution, filtrate of Liquorice solution by acid treatment and its residua were studied. Liquorice solution was the optimal system.The discrete foam fractionation, sequential foam fractionation and subsection foam fractionation were studied detailedly. The effects of the feed concentration, pH, gas velocity, temperature, the ratio of pool and foam height on separation results were studied. The subsection foam fractionation was proved to be the best way. Under the beneficial conditions the highest values of purity and recovery obtained were 70% and 70%, respectively, but its work efficiency should be improved still.
