| Psoriasis is a common , chronic, recurrent, inflammatory disease of the skin characterized by round circumscribed erythematous dry,scaling plaques of various sizes, covered by grayish white or silvery white, imbricated, and lamellar scales. The cause of psoriasis is unknouwn , but might involve genetic factors, infectious factors, impediment of matebolizing, incretion, psychoneurotic factors, autoimmunity. Chinese traditional medicine has it's own advantage in treating zhis disease. Narrow-band Ultraviolet B is a safe and effective means in treating psoriasis, which is approbatory and popular in the past years. But there is no report in contrasting Chinese traditional medicine with Narrow-band Ultraviolet B in treating psoriasis.Theoretical part: the author reviewed the tradional Chinese medicine theory and the lately developing in treating psoriasis with tradional Chinese medicine. And the author also reviewed the biological effects and clinical efficacy of narrow-band ultraviolet B in psoriasis.Clinical part: objective Through clinical study, we observed the efficacy and sagety of NB-UVB phototherapy and which has curative effect by contrast with the tradional Chinese medicine and NB-UVB combining withherbal medicine in psoriasis. Methods 60 patients were dividedrandomly into NB-UVB group (n=20, male=13, female=7), NB-UVB combined with herbal medicine group (n=20, male=13, female=7), herbal medicine group (n=20, male=10, female=10). The patients in NB-UVB group received NB-UVB treatment 2 times per week with an intial dose of 0.3J/cm2 . The dose was increased 0.1 J/cm2, per treatment. If itch , erythema or other unberable uncomfortableness was found, the former dose would be kept until the uncomfortbleness was alleviative or disappear.
