Literature research: This thesis has reviewed the etiology, pathogenesis and treatment principles and methods of Ulcerative Colitis (UC) in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Both ancient and modern contents of this disease were reviewed. The modern, research results of the etiology and pathogenesis of UC were discussed at the same time. These constituted the basis of clinical research and animal experiment research.Clinical research: YU-KUI-ZHI-XIE-TANG is the empirical formula of Professor Yang,and its theorem is 'jian-pi-chu-shi,huo-xue-zhi-xie'. By clinical research: The result showed that YU-KUI-ZHI-XIE-TANG could make the clinical symptoms of UC patients improved and accelerate ulcer healed over. Among the 30 cases treated with YU-KUI-ZHI-XIE-TANG for 3months,the clinical symptoms, coated tongue, pulse tracings and the colonofiberscope appearance changes had been improved obviously. The totally effective ratios is 93.33%, composing with 7 recovery(23.33%), 15 excellence(50.00%), 6 utility (20.00%), 2 invalid (6.67%) . Among the 30 cases treated with the BU-PI-YI-CHANG Pill, the totally effective ratios were 70.00%, composing with 3 recovery (10%), 7 excellence (23.33%), 11 utility (36.67%), 9 invalid (30.00 %) .With the statistical treatment, there is a significant difference between the treatment group and control group (P<0.05) .Conclusion: The result of this research showed that YU-KUI-ZHI-XIE -TANG could obviously improve the clinical symptoms, coated tongue, pulse tracings and the colonofiberscope appearance of UC patients . its clinical observation is fine,and hasn't obvious side effect or adverse reaction. It is worth to develop deeply.
