Carotid artery stenosis has intimate relationship with stroke,Ischemia, anoxia and product of glycosylation are the most important Tactorsto stimulate endotheliocyte to secrete VEGF. VEGF can promoteendotheliocyte to proliferate and accelerate neovascularization. We aimedto investigate and analysis the relationship between the plasma VEGF levelsand carotid artery stenosis in this study. Methods: Plasm VEGF were measuredwith ELISA in the cases of carotid artery stenosis and the cases of (?)Results: The plasma VEGF level in patients with severe carotid arterystenosis is significantly higher than normal; There is positive correlationbetween cerebral ischemia and the level of VEGF; the plasma VEGF levels inthe cases of unstable atheromatous plaque is higher than the cases of control, which means that VEGF may promote the atheromatous plaque to be unstable. We can conclude that VEGF play a important role in the development of carotidartery stenosis. whether VEGF can be use in the ischemia encephalopathybecause of carotid artery stenosis, we still need more investigation andpreclinical experiment.
