Objective:To study the relationship between the stability of carotid atheromatous plaques and serum insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1) level in the patients with acute cerebral infarction.Methods:100patients with acute cerebral infarction are selected. The objects are divided into unstable plaque group, stable plaque group and non-plaque group according to the character of echo.35healthy people which matched with age are selected for control. The control group has been excluded the carotid plaques by color Doppler ultrasonography. Traditional risk factors of all selected studies including age, sex, body mass index (BMI), smoke, as well as hypertension are recorded. Serum fasting blood-glucose, lipid and IGF-1are measured among the whole objects. Furthermore, all the indexes are compared among groups. Results:1.The rate of carotid atheromatous plaque and unstable plaque in the acute cerebral infarction group are67.0%and42.0%;2.Serum IGF-1level in unstable plaque group is significantly lower than that in stable plaque group and non-plaque group (P<0.01). Serum IGF-1level in stable plaque group is significantly lower than that in non-plaque group (P<0.05);3.There is no significant difference in serum IGF-1level between non-plaque group with acute cerebral infarction and control group (P>0.05);4,The serum IGF-1level in the patients with acute cerebral infarction is negatively correlated with the stability grades of carotid atheromatous plaques (r=-0.365, P<0.01).Conclusions:1. Carotid atherosclerosis plaque, especially unstable plaque, is closely related with acute cerebral infarction.2.The serum IGF-1level in the patients with acute cerebral infarction is negatively correlated with the stability grades of carotid atheromatous plaques. The risk of the unstability of carotid atheromatous plaques has increased by serum IGF-1level decreased.
