With the development of analytical techniques and desirable progress of relevant researches about traditional Chinese medicines(TCM), to build the characteristic fingerprint of traditional Chinese medicine is becoming the most efficient means for quality control of TCM. It also would become the powerful means for standardizing of producing process of TCM. With the rapid development of hyphenated instruments and related chemometric methods, it is possible to provide powerful tools and extensive prospect for the building and evaluating of TCM fingerprint. In this thesis, the Angelica pubescens Maxim and Notoptergium incium ting ex H.T. Chang were taken as the research targets. Their fingerprints were studied by relative chemometric methods and the obtained fingerprints can be used for quality control of Angelica pubescens Maxim and Notoptergium incium ting ex H.T.Chang.In chapter 1, the development of TCM in recent years, the application of the main analytical methods in coumarin, the optimization of separated conditions of multicomponent by HPLC technology and the application of some resolution methods in TCM were summarized. In chapter 2, the chemical components of pharmacological activity of Angelica pubescens Maxim and the optimization of extraction conditions of coumarins from Angelica pubescens Maxim, including optimizing the extraction condition such as temperature, times of extract, concentration of ethanol, time etc, were investigated. In addition, the components of coumarin were qualitatived with the help of ultraviolet spectrum. In chapter 3, after the overlapping chromatographic peaks were resolved with Heuristic Evolving Latent Projection (HELP) method, qualitative analysis of the volatile components of Angelica pubescens Maxim was performed by similarity search in NIST library, and the quantitative results were obtained by calculating the volume of total two-way. In chapter 4, local least squares and principle component analysis were applied to chemical pattern recognition for qualitatively analyzing the chromatographic fingerprints of Angelica pubescens Maxim sample from samples from different locations. The classification of them showed that most of the tested samples have good similarities with the common pattern fingerprint of the regular samples. The developed method can be used for the quality control of Angelicapubescens Maxim. In chapter 5, the volatile and nonvolatile components of Notoptergium incium ting ex H.T.Chang were investigated, then the HPLC fingerprints were developed under the same chromatographic conditions. The developed method can be used to distinguish Angelica pubescens Maxim from Angelica pubescens Maxim and to control the medicinal material market.
