PurposeUsing prospective method, we make research on the TCM syndrome of 50 advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients between before and after the chemotherapy, which is guided by the theory of TCM and western medicine. We hope that we can discover some rules and provide some references for the clinical co-operation of Chinese and Western medicine.MethodsWe use prospective method to observe 50 in-patients of NSCLC in guang'anmen hospital from May, 2007 to Jan, 2008. Such patients were all treated by combination of TCM and western medicine. By the research on the TCM syndrome and tracing its change among before, the fourth day and the eighth day after chemotherapy, we try to find some rules.Results1 The main syndrome of advanced NSCLC include qi deficiency and blood stasis,qi deficiency and phlegm heat, qi deficiency, blood stasis and phlegm dampness, qi stagnation and blood stasis, deficiency of both the qi and yin, yang deficiency .Their proportion are separately 30 percent, 14 percent,12 percent,12 percent,20 percent, and 12 percent of the whole.2 The distribution of syndromes are not relevant to clinical pathology patterns, stages and course of disease. Scale cancer and Adenocarcinoma mainly belong to qi deficiency and blood stasis, deficiency of both the qi and yin.3 Before chemotherapy, the main TCM syndromes are qi deficiency and blood stasis .After there days, qi deficiency and phlegm heat,qi stagnation and blood stasis, deficiency of both the qi and yin increase, but qi deficiency and blood stasis, qi deficiency, blood stasis and phlegm dampness decrease. After seven days, there aren't more obvious change than before. We can know that chemotherapy can alleviate qi deficiency and blood stasis ,and qi deficiency, blood stasis and phlegm dampness. Besides that, it can also aggravate qi deficiency and phlegm heat, qi stagnation and blood stasis, and deficiency of both the qi and yin. In terms of single symptom, deficiency of qi, phlegm heat and deficiency of yin are aggravated, blood stasis is alleviated.Conclusion:1 The deficiency of qi, blood stasis, phlegm dampness, phlegm heat, qi stagnation, deficiency of yin, deficiency of yang are the basic factors of the 50 patients. They all belong to the excessive and the deficiency syndrome, of which qi deficiency and blood stasis, and deficiency of qi and yin are the most.2 The change before and three days after chemotherapy, and the symptoms of every point may give some advice on the TCM intervene during chemotherapy .To some extent, they can reflect the quality of chemotherapy medicine indirectly. From now on, we could increase the numbers of the sample and do more research on the basis of this one.
