Object:The econometric research is applied to evaluate the clinical,economic outcomes and quality of life of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) for the treatment of stageⅢB-Ⅳnon-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Method:NSCLC inpatient medical records in 6 hospitals in Guangzhou in 2007 are collected to develop a database.Econometric methods,Ordinary Least Squares Regression,Negative Binomial Regression,Ordered Logistic Estimation and Multinomial Logistic Regression,Logistic Regression are applied to analyze the medical expenditure,length of stay(LOS),Karnofsky Performance Status Scale(KPS),Quality of Life(QOL) and clinical symptoms respectively among TCM therapy,western medicine therapy and combined therapy,as well as between TCM hospital and western hospital.Result:Compare to western medicine,both TCM therapy and combined therapy have significantly improved KPS,cost-effectiveness,quality of life(QOL),clinical symptoms and less LOS and inpatient expenditure;Compare to western medical hospital,TCM hospital has significantly improved QOL,cost-effectiveness,less expenditure and slight advantage in controlling LOS and improving KPS.Compare to western hospital,TCM hospital have more advantages.The results of leaving out the death sample show that TCM therapy has more advantages in these indicators.Cost Effectiveness Analysis further test the results. Conclusion:TCM proves to have economic advantage in the treatment of advanced NSCLC. Health care economic analyses of TCM provide useful information for rational therapeutic decisions that could be utilized to maximize societal health benefits.
