"lady Chatterley's Lover" Ecological Criticism

D·H Lawrence was a very distinctive writer in the history of western literature in twentieth century. He was brilliant, visionary, while had a rough life, suffered from criticism and could not be understood by people even for many years after his death. Lady Chatterley's Lover is a summary of Lawrence's works and his last work. It possesses exquisite artistry and profound ideological implication, which has always been the research focus for numerous scholars fans of Lawrence.Eco-criticism, appeared as a new theory of cultural criticism, is accompanied by the frequency of ecological crisis in the world today and the new consideration to the relationship between humans and nature. It shows people` s hope for preventing and mitigating natural disasters and establishing a ideal home where mankind live with natural world together harmoniously in the field of literary criticism. This paper tries to re-interpret Lady Chatterley's Lover from the perspective of ecological criticism, with the way from famous scholar LuShuyuan who dived Ecology into three aspect, namely: the natural ecology, the social ecology, and the spiritual ecology, to explore the deep thinking to many questions about nature, society, human spirit, industrial civilization and gender relations, which have been showed in Lawrence` s works from three aspects: man and nature, man with others, man themselves, to reveal the positive ecological philosophy thoughts about the harmony between human and nature implied in it.This paper is made up of introduction, body and conclusion, and the body is divided into three chapters.Introduction: Focus on the literary status of Lawrence, the creative background and the research current of Lady Chatterley's Lover, the origin and main points of critical theory .Chapter I: Begin with the content of works, analyse from the damage to environment, the distorted alienation to natural human instinct and spirit, the destruction to the relationship between Connie and Cliffod due to the process of industrialization to reveal the strong critique from Lawrence to modern industrial civilization and modern industrial society.Chapter II: Mainly analysis the description to the interactive relationship between nature and Connie, the praise to full personality of natural man Meles, as well as the bond between Connie and Meles mixed with body and soul, which is full of vitality, on the desire to return to reveal the nature, be far away from the hubbub of industrial society, pursue the simple life in order to get positive ecological philosophy thought to make mental and physical rebirth.Chapter III: The main summary of the ecological view of Lawrence as well as the differences and relations with modern ecological critical theory. Analyse the limitations and investigate the causes of Lawrence` s ecological thought from his own experience and historical and cultural background.Conclusion: This paper is a brief overview of Lawrence` s ecological philosophy showed in Lady Chatterley's Lover and their realistic meaning and educational significance.
