Nicolas Poussin was an outstanding French classical artist in the 17th century. He had been in Rome, Italy for a long time and most of his artistic achievements were accomplished in Rome. Poussin had earned a very high reputation in France when he was still alive. He was accorded the title of First Painter of Louis XIII. Poussin was a genius in painting and had extraordinary painting skills. Such a full world and various objects can be painted vividly by his brush. All of his characters were lifelike. Poussin was best at the paintings on such subject-matters as myth, religion and history. In these works, he achieved so brilliant art accomplishment that ordinary painters couldn't accomplish at all. His outstanding achievements were mainly embodied in which his paintings conveys rich and profound philosophy of life in unique and charming art form. The thesis is aimed at deeply and systematically studying the art forms of Poussin's works, and rigorously analyzing the general features of his paintings as well as the causes that the features are created. Furthermore, the thesis has fully and detailedly researched the characteristics of the composition, sketch and color of Poussin's paintings, and thoroughly discussed some controversial issues on Poussin's paintings in history, and brought forward very innovatively valuable understanding and views.
