This thesis focuses on the text of Kan Chashan's The Cottage Poems of Yellow Leave and Setting Sun (a block-printed edition in the Edo period) in which the images of loyals are analyzed. Kusunoki Masashige, first found in Taiheiki, was obviously better favored by Chashan in his poems with typical feature and style than any other loyals. (Such poems in praise of Kusunoki Masashige are called Kusunoki Masashige Poems here.) Among Chashan's Kusunoki Masashige Poems, it is "A Poem Written after Passing by Kusunoki Masashige's Grave" known as a full interpretation of the thought of revering the emperor that becomes the most representative work, which shocked the field of Confucianism in the Edo period. In addition, another masterwork "Lived Ikuta During the Night "compiled in the Japanese edititon of middle school, as well as its complementary work "The Comments about Kusunoki Masashige" by Rai Sanyou were hailed as a paragon of patriotism and loyalty from the Meiji to Taisho Era.Based on the analysis of Kan Chashan's Kusunoki Masashige Poems, the paper will investigate the background when they appeared. One is due to the flourish of modern Confucianism, another is the fanatic worship of Kusunoki Masashige. Furthermore, the features of Kusunoki Masashige Poems are to be concluded from four aspects to establish their important position in the poetic circle. The conclusions are as follows:(1) Chashan's Kusunoki Masashige Poems, for example, "On the Way to Hyogo"and "On the Way to Tohara" known as countryside poems, are presented with an artistic conception of Painting -in-Poetry, which is Chasha's symbolic style of realistic writing embellished in a pure and fresh way different from other poets of Kusunoki Masashige Poems.(2) Characterized by the down-to-earth tone in Chashan's poems with painting, Chashan's original work"A Picture of Kusunoki Masashige Hoding the Cup" is unique in all Kusunoki Masashige Poems with painting. Chashan's poems with painting are outshone by Rai Sanyou in power and diction, but the former are presented in a simple and plain language like narrative poems obviously in contrast to the latter.(3) In Chashan's negatively-described Kusunoki Masashige Poems, Kusunoki Masashige is negatively praised for his loyalty in contrast to Kogima norinaga, and in "Image Of Minamoto No Yoshitsune", he is again admired for his outstanding military strategy in contrast to Minamoto No Yoshitsune.(4) Well-cultivated in Sinology and historiography, Chashan utilizes historical allusions to the point in his historically-oriented poems, in which, above all, Chashan expresses his admiration for Kusunoki Masashige and puts forward the thought of revering the emperor.Kan Chashan is a representative poet in praise of Kusunoki Masashige in the Edo period. Most of his Kusunoki Masashige Poems are written in memory of the rise and fall of history, but also the term wasyuu referring to the Japanese endemic features is shown in Kan Chashan's poems. Chashan interpretes Kusunoki Masashige from the perspective of Chinese poems and reaches a summit of Kusunoki Masashige Poems by means of melting emotions to scenes, although the image of Kusunoki Masashige is similar to that in Taiheiki.
