The Sexism Metaphorization Study

Since the seventies and eighties of the twentieth century, sexism in language is concerned by many Western and Chinese linguists.They had studied about the manifestations of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar discrimination against women, and analyzed the reasons for formation this phenomenon.Sexism in language exists in the way of metaphor is the reflaction that discrimination against women in society. The construction function and inference function of metaphor in "Linguistic Sexism " linked women with animals, plants,foods,and linked women with the conception of evil, depravation and vulnerable.That is a strong tendency to belittle women which is the manifestation of the sender of metaphor to women.This tendency will affect harmony of language.This article will to study the phenomenon of linguistic sexism in English and Chinese from the new perspective of metaphor based on previous research.Discussion the linguistic sexism issues from the perspective of metaphor can reveal the cognitive reason causes about linguistic sexism on one hand as well as a way to help people to understand the gender culture of English and Chinese.This paper defines the conception of the "Linguistic Sexism" and "Metaphor" firstly.Then analysis the anti-affinity function,construction function, inference function and evaluation function of metaphor in the linguistic sexism. And then through the analysis a large number of animal metaphors,food metaphors,plant metaphors,semantic change metaphors, metaphors point to different gender and convention metaphors of linguistic sexism in English and Chinese from the perspective of metaphor. The article comprehensive analysis a large number manifestations of the linguistic sexism appeared in the way of metaphor which reflect the social status of women. Sexism of linguistic reflacts that women are lack of discourse right, economic status, social status and self-resistance in social. Based on the above analysis, this thesis held the view that linguistic sexism is a form of discrimination against women in society.This article also analysis the changes and development of sexism in linguistic which shows the improvement of women's social status in the new period.Then the paper discuss about the causes of the linguistic sexism from the perspective of religious factors,social division of labor and culture factors. Finally,this thesis analyze the way of removal the sexism in language and the effect of social development to improve and avoid the linguistic sexism.
