He Lin was a famous philosopher and one of the important exponents of new Confucianism in Chinese modern history. His knowledge expanding to cover both the East and the West, he deemed it his duty to revitalize the national culture and established the ideological system of new Confucianism, the core of which was the new philosophy of the mind. From the conception of doctrine, spirit, culture and nature, and combining the relations of essence and use, he structured the distinctive ideological system of culture philosophy, offered criticism on using Chinese culture to manage and western technology to work, total Westernization and Chinese culture standard, and expounded the culture philosophy proposition which was using the essence to reinforce the substance and the practical use for the work.He Lin considered the national crisis as culture crunch in Chinese modern history and the national rejuvenation lay in the cultural renaissance. As a result, he worked hard for the rejuvenation of Confucianism, regarding the new approach of Confucianism was from the completely grasping essence and use of western culture, the new light of Chinese culture's position, making the western culture a part of Confucianism, finally realizing the blend of Chinese-west culture and the development of new Confucianism. So in addition to absorbing western philosophy, he placed a very high value on the study on Christianity, the spirit of Christianity, Chinese philosophy and Confucianism. Although He Lin's system of philosophy was based on the idealism, his many views still had vital reference significance for guiding social practice and the study of social science.
