Basic Colors In Chinese And English Words Contrast For Teaching Chinese As A Foreign Language

When foreign students study Chinese, differences between Chinese and English Colour Terms lead to a great deal of inconveniences. From the Contrastive Analysis between Chinese and English Colour Terms and the Error Analysis of foreign students learning Chinese Colour Terms, we draw some useful insights of teaching Chinese Colour Terms to speakers of other languages.This article can be divided into six parts:The first chapter is the preface. In this chapter, the research background of the Colour Terms and the origin of this argument are briefly introduced.Chapter 2 includes a relevant literature review of Colour Terms. We summarize the main research achievements on the Colour Terms both at home and abroad. And the research of Colour Terms in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages has been reviewed as well.In Chapter 3, we propose a "Modern Chinese Basic Colour Terms" concept and provide its motivation and analysis on the basis of the observation of the previous research on Colour Terms.In Chapter 4, we make contrastive analysis of the basic colour terms in terms of composition, grammar and culture between Chinese and English.In Chapter 5, we find out the current state of the foreign students using Chinese Color Terms via the Interlanguage Corpus and questionnaires.In Chapter 6, from the above comparative studies and surveys, we expect to benefit the teaching of Chinese Colour Terms.
