Jean Sibelius is a great composer of European national school in late Romantic period. His composition involved orchestral music, opera, art songs, chamber music, organ, piano and many other fields, piano works were composed more than a hundred, mostly piano pieces sets, independent music, sonatas. During the Romantic development period, many composers brought piano pieces this creative art form into a certain height, that made it today still be a genre that loved by the public, be popular for pianists to play, and also be essential for piano students to learn. Sibelius created a large number of title piano pieces with substantial contents and various styles, the most common forms are sets of piano pieces which contain several piano pieces, most of them are melodic, full of music expressions, unique national characteristics, aesthetic and research value.This thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is an overview of Sibelius's music practice and his piano works, summarized his piano works by genre. The second part is analyzing the creation features and performing skills of the set of piano pieces (Op.76),it is the key part of the thesis,first analyze the structures and tonalities, summarize its style and features by discoursing the titles, melodies, voice level, tone colors, national elements, secondly, combined author's learning and playing experience, analyze the performing skills. The third part summarized artistic charm and value embodiment of Sibelius's piano pieces from aesthetics,techniques,teaching significance and some other points.This paper aims to include Sibelius's piano works, expand the scope of Sibelius's music research, and provide help for the whole observation of Sibelius's music research.
