As a typical Western musical instrument, the piano has been slowly introduced to China after a long period of development and evolution.Since the first piece appeared, the methods of composing Chinese piano music has been constantly changing. From the complete use of Western artistic techniques to the combination of Chinese traditional music and Western composing techniques, there has been a qualitative leap forward. With the continuous development of the composer's composing concept,Chinese piano music has become more colourful in terms of style, genre, and creative techniques. In the 1980 s,a number of outstanding domestic piano works emerged, reflecting the practical application of the technique combination,of which the work "the Sketches of Tibet" has attracted much attention."The Sketches of Tibet" is a piano suite created by Chinese composer Bingyuan Cui in 1985.His works are based on the local customs and regional cultures of the Tibetans.Particularly,he used Tibetan-specific musical elements as the mainstay, combined with Chinese traditional music and Western creative techniques, and composed this unique piece of musical works with artistic features. The work consists of three pieces of music, for us each shows a variety of rich Tibetan cultural characteristics. This article mainly studies the artistic features and the performing methods of "the Sketches of Tibet" from three aspects with detail,in order to further understand the Tibetan music culture, and to play a valuable role in providing some inspiration in the future researches. This article contains three parts: The first part mainly explores the background of the composition, and elaborates on the Tibetan music genre, the author's composing experience. The second part analyzes the artistic features of the work through the different tones, the development techniques, the harmony, the musical structures,etc..The third part is the author's second creation and analysis, expounding the playing methods and performing techniques.Hope to offer some valuable reference and help for the later performers.
