After China entered the transitional era, and with the abolition of the imperial examination system, the establishment of the new institutions and the increasingly growth of the number of school students, the class of Gentry gradually faded, however, the new intellectuals began to appear and was active in China's historical stage. The emergence of new intellectuals is a modern event, accompanied with an important issue is the identity transformation and intellectual identity, which we can describe as "the modernization of identity." Late Qing and Early Rupblic period, especially the May Fourth Enlightenment, is the most concentrated and most significant stage of the emergency of this phenomenon. New Tide Association was one of the most famous student associations in Peking University during the May Fourth period, which was also one of the representatives of New Intellectuals. Fu Sinian, Luo Jialun, Gu Jiegang, and Yu Pingbo were the most famous figures. The emergence of this association and the publish of "New Tide" magazine, are all subjected to specific times and social conditions. Identity had been gradually changed, after Cai Yuanpei's reform and the establishment of modern higher education system in Peking University, which led to changes in the field. The constitution of New Tide Assiociation was multiple-unit, and their backgrounds were complex, but in which there also existed many similarities. With growth of interpersonal relationships, and through other means of contact among each other, the consistency of ideal, values, knowledge, background and attitude, attracted each other, and eventually combined into an association. The activities in social network also affected their perceptions of self-identity and self-positioning. Parents and teachers, who have an important impact on one's growth, personality and values, play an irreplaceable role in their identity. In addition, the magazine's distribution, the activities of the Enlightenment, the communications between authors and readers, also affect the formation of their identity. And there is a direct and close contact between identity and discourse. This identity was underscored by New Tide Association's liberal tendency, the struggle between the new school and the old one, and the distinction between "We" and "Other". The New Tide Association owned the academic pursuit to rescue the nation and the notion of "academic as career", which made a clearer self-aware and self-identity.
