Guanzhong Region Unearthed Western Zhou Bronze Weapons

Guan zhong area is the place where Zhou's ancestor came from. According to "Shin Chi·Zhou Benji" that Zhou Dynasty chieftain led their clansmen move to Guan zhong in order to escape Rong and Di's attack. King Wen and King Wu are brilliant princes, and the latter finally eliminated the Shang Dynasty.and established the capital in Gao Jing.So far a large number of bronze wares of the Western Zhou Dynasty have been found in this area. However, a lot of studies were focused on Ritual Bronzes, while few attention on the large number of bronze weapons was made. This paper tried to analyze the bronze weapons found in Guan zhong and make clear that how to classify these weapons. This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is introduction. Although a large number of bronze wares of the Western Zhou Dynasty have been found in this area, few studies have been done. This thesis collects all the bronze weapons which found in the area of Guan zhong.The second part is the analysis on typology. This paper analyze all the bronze weapons collected in the area of Guan zhong and summarize the evolution of them.The third part is stage and age. On basis of the characteristic of bronze weapons, the ones in the region are divided into three phases, which are equivalent to the early, mid and late Western Zhou Dynasty.The fourth part is combination of bronze weapons. Different bronze weapons'development is imbalance, the combination of bronze Ge is attached importance to in Western Zhou Dynasty.At the same time, the tombs with tomahawk are attributed to aristocrats.The fifth part is the discussion of some relative problems. Funerary weapons'appearance is affected by Shang Curture instead of the owner's economic status. Damaged weapons with broken, curved and some part can't be found are popular in the early and mid Western Zhou Dynasty, most of them is dagger-axe; the reason maybe a ceremonials of religion we don't know. The army of Zhou is composed of infantryman and chariot. Western Zhou Dynasty weapons not only used for war but also reflect grade and comity system as the symbol of aristocracy power.
