This thesis systematically analyzes the Mongolian version of Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman from the perspective of Medio-translatology in comparative literature. The thesis is mainly composed of introduction, main body, conclusions, and appendix. The introduction part gives an illustration to background of the present study, research purpose and its significance, research condition and research methodology.Chapter one systematically analyzes Leaves of Grass, translated by Artai in Mongolian, from the theoretical perspective of literal translation, free translation, domestication and foreignization and comes to the conclusion that when he translates Leaves of Grass, he adopts literal translation more than others. Chapter two elaborates on some of the problems in Mongolian version of Leaves of Grass. That is to say, first, we lack standardized criteria when translating foreign terms. Second, in the process of translation, the translator tends to change freely the format of the original poem, for which the author suggests if not necessary, we should maintain the original flavor of foreign literatures. Third, the translator tends to add some new words or delete some original words in the Mongolian version, which will affect the original meaning of the English poem. Chapter three points out such affecting factors as social, political, cultural and the translator's own condition are the main concern when we translate foreign literatures. Finally, the thesis summarizes the main content of the present study based on the previous three chapters.
