Horqin Grassland locates in the east of Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. And its literature and art, rich in typical characteristics of Mongolian nationality, has gained worldwide fame. Since the middle of last century, when rising wood block in China was planted in this beautiful land, there emerged in large numbers originators of grassland wood block in Zhalute, a small county in deep grassland of Inner Mongolian region. In half century, due to the hard work of wood blcok artists in Zhalute County, the wood block art of Zhalute has gained great achievements and is famous not only in Inner Mongolian rgion, in China, but is known in many foreign countries and territories because of its abundant characteristics of nationality and region. The wood block artists began their work with boards and nicking tools under hard conditions that lacked necessary material prerequisites, thus cultivating generations of wood block originators and excellent art talents. Mr. Zhaorigetu is among those who have been teaching in Zhalute for half century and have done a great deal in the cultivation. Their contribution to national art can not be neglected. In the teaching experience of more than forty years, Mr. Zhaorigetu has overcome numerous difficulties with hard work and improved in a creative way the art educatioan and teaching methods in middle and primary schools combining cultural charateristics of ethnic regions. As for the cultivation of so many art talents for minority nationality areas, he has won such a fame as an exellent educator in art in Inner Mongolia as well as in China. In addition, he won the title of National Pedagogy Model, National Special Grade Teacher and a medal of People's Education. He is also a well-known grassland artist in wood block art. As an art activist and organizer with cohesive force and emotional appeal, he has a lot of good wood block works reflecting the new life in the grassland and educated a large number of wood block successors. Based on fact finding and interviews with the artist, this paper discusses such aspects as how Mr. Zhaorigetu and his colleagues worked under the natural, economic and cultural background of the day in Zhalute, how they educated their students and so on. And in further discussion by employing correlation theories, this paper figures out their characteristics in work and education, with an aim to reveal their contribution to ethnic art educatin and wood block art. To seek the corresponding factors, this case study will play a role of enlightenment and reference for current ethnic art education, and it may make Mr. Zhaorigetu's experience and achievement s known to more people, for more young students to know about their predecessors and those years. And most importantly, it is an indispensable part for the study of history and culture of Mongolian nationality.
