As the third novelist after World War II who won Nobel Prize in the history of U.S, Steinbeck was in practice as a writer of conscience and mission from humanitarian level in his whole life. He used sentiment of humanitarianism to restore historial truth of people's real survival status. He revealed the complexity of good and evil of human nature and people's craving for an ideal society. In the series of Steinbeck's novels, we can not only read the criticism of human behavior to the destruction of humanitarian thought and the praise of the goodness of human nature in western tradition, but also realize writer's positive attitude to the treatment of natural environment, violent protests, reconstruction of human nature and transcend tradition and contemporary writer. In the formation of his humanitarianism, he inherited spirit of other literary works and refered to personal life experiences. He was in a specific era and well received by the influence of Christianity. Steinbeck revealed dark reality and sticked to good humanity and thinked rebuilding of society in long river of humanitarianism. He also gave his contribution to the development of human spirit.This thesis intended to expound texts to discuss humanitarian mind in Steinbeck's works in order to understand his works' value better. Some of the original English books were refered in order to enrich reference information and increase the reliability of the content because Steinbeck's reference materials were not comprehensive in mainland.
